Point de vue
Reykjavik Concert Hall
Austurbakki 2, 101 Reykjavík, Islande The Concert Hall not only had concerts going on (which we didn't end up seeing), but also had some tourist shops inside and lots of information on the harbour which it resides along. Great views can be seen of the ocean and the mountains across the way, a must-see place to check out once you get to Reykjavik. We parked in a little parking lot about a block away for the day, a great spot to start.

Point de vue
Eyjafjallajökull Volcano
Þorvaldseyri, 861 Hvolsvöllur, Islande This is the big famous volcano that caused such air pollution in 2010. While you can't actually get up to it (from what we could see), there is an inexpensive museum on the right hand side of the road where you can get more information about it. Further up the road you can see the glacier that covers the volcano and there is a sightseeing point on the left hand side of the road to read about.

Vatnajökull National Park
Skaftafell, Islande Get your legs all warmed up and head to the national park! There are SO many great things you can do in the park: hiking, ice caving, glacier climbing, camping, etc. Hike in Skaftafell for several hours, seeing several waterfalls and basalt columns and hills; the level of difficulty for each path is easily marked. Book tours for the caving and glacier climbing at the visiting centre.

Petra's Stone Collection
Fjarðarbraut 21, 755 Stöðvarfjörður, Iceland The lady who collected all these rocks died in 2012, but her family carries on the legacy! Filling the front yard, back yard, and entirety of the house, are beautiful and precious rocks collected by the infamous Petra. Meet her family and take a stroll amongst the stones. A little out of the way, yes, but SO worth the drive! You can easily get back onto Highway 1 from here without backtracking.

Hverfjall Volcano
Hverfjall, Iceland Easy to get to and hike on your own, we did this without any tour guide. The road to the base of the volcano is rough and not car friendly. The "easy side" to hike is on the north side, and takes about 30 minutes. The harder, faster side is on the south side, a decent hike from Dimmuborgir- the really unique lava formations around the volcano. If you have the time and energy, check it out!

Snaefellsnes Peninsula
Snæfellsjökull, Islande LOTS of driving, but the peninsula is a great summary of your trip; aka "Little Iceland". Check out Kifkjufellsfoss and Kirkjufell; try to make it to Snæfellsjökull- the volcano well-known as "the center of the earth". Yes, it is THAT one! If you want gold sand, visit Ytri Tunga Beach.

Half-day Lava Caving
Laugavegur 105, Austurbær Reykjavík, Islande We booked a tour with Arctic Adventures that included Lava Caving and The Golden Circle. They pick you up from Reykjavik if your hotel is there; they picked us up from Hlemmur bus stop. They were fantastic, and the lava caving is SO cool; you are basically climbing around in a lava tube in the middle of a lava field. The tour provides transportation roundtrip, it is 8 hours long.

Keflavik International Airport
Southern Peninsula Region, 235, Iceland We had a lovely time in Iceland and highly recommend it! Bring waterproof pants and coats and boots and gloves... also bring head gear as it is windy... maybe some long johns for under your clothes too. Maybe go in the summertime if you can't handle the cold well. However, we saw so many waterfalls here because it was spring and got to see some of the miracles of winter here. Enjoy!
